Useful Information

Here is a summary of the shops and restaurants you will find in Cormatin when coming from Chazelle on the main road. On the first right-hand corner is the butcher (who also does ready-meals) and a pizzeria "Pizz'a Marco". A little further along on the right is a wine shop "Caveau du figuier", a café/restaurant "La Terrasse", a Tabac/newsagent (English newpapers are available), a hotel/restaurant "Les Blés d'Or" (with WiFi) and just after the church there is a baker "La Boulangerie du Château".
Opposite the baker is a small supermarket (épicerie) and a little further on the same side is a chemist (pharmacie). Just after the chemist, on the opposite (right-hand) side of the road, is a bar "Café de la Poste", the post office, the tourist information office (only open in July and August) and a second baker "Aux Délices de Cormatin". Most of the shops are shut on Mondays but there is always one baker open. Whilst the bakers open early in the morning, they are shut for a long time at lunchtime.

For a bigger selection of shops, in Cluny (8 miles) there are 2 big supermarkets with cheap petrol (Atac & Intermarché) which are also open on Sunday mornings in the summer, a small supermarket (Petit Casino), a large selection of shops (clothes, books, souvenirs), an Office de Tourisme, a large post office, a number of good restaurants and a large market on Saturdays. There is an internet café and some of the cafés in the main street have WiFi. There are a number of bank machines in Cluny and the Intermarché also has a bank machine.

In Saint-Gengoux-le-National (6 miles) there is a supermarket (Maxi - shut on Sundays and during lunchtime), which is a bit smaller than those in Cluny. There is also a wine cellar that sells wine not only in bottles, but bag in box and also "on tap", bring your own containers.

Apart from the larger supermarkets in the bigger towns, almost everything is shut on a Monday and for lunch between 12.00 and 14.00.

The nearest hypermarchés are Mâcon/Crèches-sur-Saône (Auchan, Carrefour) and Chalon-sur-Saône (Géant).

At the campsite in Cormatin and at some of the old railways stations along the Voie Verte (a cycle path) and at the Tourist Information Office in Saint-Gengoux-le-National, you can rent bicycles for a couple of hours, for a day or for a week. The prices in Cormatin are in the order of magnitude of 20 Euros per day and 65 Euros per week. Whilst they state that they require a deposit of 250 Euros, no one who has stayed with us has had to pay one.

If you want any more information, don't hesitate to ask either of us.
