La Tuilerie, 71460 Cormatin, South Burgundy (Saône-et-Loire 71), Tel: 00 33 385 50 19 55
La Tuilerie is situated half way between Dijon and Lyon, with easy access to the A6 motorway. It is ideal for a stop over on your way to or from the south,
or for a longer stay to enjoy all that Burgundy has to offer. The property is in the small village of Chazelle, just outside Cormatin, a small town with a very attractive
château in the heart of the South Burgundy countryside.
They stopped making tiles in La Tuilerie in 1924, but the tile preparation areas, oven and the drying sheds are still there. The house and stables have been
used until quite recently as a working farm, now Sue and Cees live there and are waiting to welcome you to this peaceful spot.
Cormatin itself has shops for your daily needs, a very attractive regional arts and crafts centre and a market once every two weeks. Just 12 km away is Cluny,
which has a couple of large and very well stocked supermarkets.
South Burgundy has a special microclimate ensuring that the summers start early and end late, perfect for the vineyards that are all around.
See today's weather and forecast. We are in the Mâconnais wine region on the edge of the
Côte Chalonnais and within easy reach of others such as the Côte d'Or and the Beaujolais. Numerous village viticulturists (as well as a couple of good,
local wine co-operatives) offer wine tasting.
We are well situated for visiting historic towns like Cluny, Tournus, Beaune, Dijon, Lyon and Autun. The religious centres of Taizé (Christian) and La
Boulaye (Buddhist) are also within reach. The spiritual centre of Taizé is so close you can even walk there if you want. There are also lots of châteaux,
Romanesque churches and beautiful uncrowded countryside to visit near here.
La Voie Verte (a cycle path that runs the length of South Burgundy) passes within a stone's throw of the property and gives cycle and walking access
to many interesting towns and villages.
Fishing is a popular sport in the area (the river Grosne) and we can arrange permits.
