La Tuilerie, 71460 Cormatin, South Burgundy (Saône-et-Loire 71), Tel: 00 33 385 50 19 55
La Tuilerie is on the edge of a forest overlooking rolling meadows. All you can hear here are the birds in the trees and the frogs in the pond and yet you are very
close to shops and restaurants.
We rent out two gites (roughly translated as self catering holiday homes or holiday accommodation) by the week from Saturday to Saturday for a maximum of two people
in each gite. Each apartment has its own entrance, living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and sitting area outside.
For the more adventurous, we have a small campsite with no electricity, allowing generous space for 6 tents (no caravans or campervans) where peace and quiet are also
guaranteed. There are a fridge, a freezer and electricity in the toilet block, so not totally à la nature!
So if you have had enough of the stress of your everyday life and you really want to get away from the noise and traffic but not really away from civilisation, then we
have what you are looking for!
Because of its unique position, being only a stone’s throw from the Voie Verte (a flat cycle/walking path that passes through South Burgundy from north to south) and
because of the numerous well marked-out routes for walkers and cyclists that criss-cross the area, La Tuilerie is an excellent location for a cycling or walking holiday.
You can even have a day out on horse-back to enjoy the area.
For those holiday-makers seeking a more spiritual holiday, La Tuilerie has something special to offer. The peace and quiet here are perfect for a more meditative stay
and for those who want to spend a week in Taizé, or who would like to attend one or two services, we offer a more comfortable and a quieter alternative to staying in
Taizé itself. From the garden you can see the churches in Taizé, you can hear the bells three times a day and it is within walking distance. Further away,
but easily visited by car, is the Tibetan Buddhist monastery Kagyu Ling at La Boulaye.
You can also just lay around with a good book, enjoying the surroundings in-between visiting the many things that this area has to offer. Either walking, by bike or
by car you can enjoy travelling through the gently rolling landscape of the vineyards around here, the Mâconnais, the Côte Chalonnaise, the Côte d'Or
and the Beaujolais are all close. On your travels you will pass through numerous picturesque villages where you can visit the many Romanesque churches, châteaux and
the abundant potters and artists who sell their works. Just to mention a few of the highlights this area has to offer, the historic towns of Cluny, Tournus, Beaune,
Autun, Dijon and Lyon are all well worth the visit.
La Tuilerie is half-way between Dijon and Lyon, with easy access to the A6 motorway. The house, which was a tile factory until 1924 and then a farm, is just outside the
small village of Chazelle, in the commune of Cormatin. Cormatin (just under 2 miles away) has shops for your daily needs, a couple of restaurants, the possibility to rent bikes, a very
attractive regional arts and crafts centre and a market once every two weeks. Just 7.5 miles away is Cluny, which has a two large and very well stocked supermarkets, a wide
choice of restaurants and an excellent market on a Saturday morning.
If you want more detailed information look at our gites page or campsite page for what we
have to offer and our tourist page and photo gallery for what there is to see
